How to clean a coffee maker with vinegar
Step 1: Rinse off all part of the coffee maker including the carafe, coffee basket and depending upon your particular model any and all removable parts.
Step 2: Fill the water reservoir about 20% to the top with vinegar and the rest of the way with cold water.
Step 3: Run a regular brew cycle without the coffee.
Step 4: Dump the contents of the coffee pot and rinse thoroughly.
Step 5: Rinse all parts again and fill reservoir with clean cold water.
Step 6: Run a full brewing cycle with only water.
Step 7: Repeat step 5 & 6 until you can no longer smell the vinegar.
While this does work, it is often better to simply purchase a product named Dip It.
In my experience the purchased product works much better on the stains.
